Menstrie Castle

Visiting Menstrie Castle – Review

What a fabulous day touring a bit of Scotland with Iain!

Our itinerary included Stirling Castle, the nearby Menstrie Castle, and then onward to St. Andrews for lunch and a visit to the Old Course (amazing, and we’re not even golfers!) followed by a leisurely drive back to Edinburgh passing by—and through—a few small fishing villages.

From start to finish, truly a first-class affair—Iain’s quite knowledgeable and insightful regarding the history and larger context of the places we visited as well as how that past influences the topics which play out in the daily news today.

What impressed us most was his intrepid legwork prior to our visit. We had expressed interest in visiting Menstrie Castle as my parents had visited it a year ago. Seems we’re descendants of Sir William Alexander, who was born there! Iain met up with a Clackmannanshire councilman prior to our visit and arranged for a private tour of what heretofore had been inaccessible parts of the castle.

Absolutely incredible—not only on Iain’s part but that of the gracious councilman, as well. As the reader can tell, we were quite impressed with Iain and he has our strongest recommendation!
