Great Scots – William Hastie

Great Scot William Hastie b in Scotland either in 1753 or 1763 Tsarskoye Selo in 1832, where buried in a Protestant cemetery.

An architect, civil engineer and town planner.His name translated into the Russian William Heste or Vasily Heste.

Because of his influence at court, his designs for buildings and whole towns can be seen throughout Russia.

He left Scotland for Russia in 1784 with a group of 73 craftsmen hired in Edinburgh by Charles Cameron, to work on construction sites in Tsarskoye Selo.
